Subject: Re: Flash Renamer 5.02

Date: Fri, 9 Jun 2006 20:32:23 +0200

Hi again,

I'm glad to hear that it works. You had me worried there! :-)

The reason for putting the files in the system folder is that it should make it easier to install an upgrade of Flash Renamer. Previously you could get errors if you installed/uninstalled in the wrong order. (Perhaps it's not bullet proff yet, since this might be what happened to you...) Also some files really must be in the system folder, and correctly registered, in order to work.

Subject: Flash Renamer 5.02

Hi again...

Prior to receiving the Beta EXE I re-installed 5.02 !

The biggest change here is that 6 support files normally found in the FlashRenamer directory are now stored in the SYSTEM32 directory (COMCT232.OCX, FolderWatcher.DLL, ShaZamMP3.DLL, ThreadAPI.TLB, VBHLP32.DLL & ZLIB.DLL).

I presume that this is by design, although am puzzled that these files were not relocated when I first installed 5.02. In any event, 5.02 appears to work OK as long as these files remain in the SYSTEM32 directory. I deleted & moved them to the FlashRenamer directory to see if I could replicate the original "Browse to a New Folder" error and did in fact get the same error.

Also, when I deleted the .Manifest file after re-installation, FlashRenamer did in fact revert to Classic Mode.

The Beta .EXE works w/o incident.

Thanks for all your help.

Sharon

I thought that the problem lied in the new XP Themed interface. It has caused some trouble before. When you remove the manifest files, the interface should go back to "classic" theme, and that *should* fix the problem. Very strange...

I have created a new version of Flash Renamer that I would like you to test. Just unzip the file into the Flash Renamer folder and run it. The only difference is that the "browse for folders" is not resizable. Please try it and let me know if it works!

If it works you can continue using it. There is nothing special with it otherwise.

Hi Dan...

I'm using XP (Home) 2002 with Service Pack 2. All fixes etc. are up-to-date. Theme is XP Style/Olive Green.

I removed the Manifest file, but the problem remains!

Hope this helps.

Hi,

I was afraid this was going to happen. You should be able to fix it by removing the file "FlashRen.exe.manifest" in the Flash Renamer program folder.

Please tell me what Windows version you use (press the Windows Key + Pause Key to see) and also what XP Theme you are using (blue/olive/ect)

I think I know where the problem lies, but the big problem is that I can't recreate this problem at home, making it hard for me to fix this problem.

Hi Dan....

Installed 5.02 w/o incident & the reported problem now works OK.

However, I've discovered another anomaly. If I select the "Browse to a New Folder" Tab (F12) the following message pops up....

Flash Renamer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Error Signature:

AppName: flashren.exe AppVer: 5.0.0.2 ModName: msvbvm60.dll

ModVer: 6.0.97.82 Offset: 000d8f5e

Any ideas?

Hi....

I'm a long-time registered user of this terrific utility! However, I'm having a problem with the latest version 5.01.

In the "Casing of Filename" section if I select Upper/Lower/Cap Sentences/Cap Words etc., then return to "No Change", the previous setting is maintained, e.g. Upper Case. I have to exit & re-load to solve the problem.

Any suggestions?
